Waiata brings us together and makes us stronger, and learning them can be heaps of fun.
Why we sing waiata?
There are waiata for all kinds of occasions. Waiata can be used to entertain, enhance a pōwhiri or speech, convey a message, share a story, show aroha or express sadness.
They’re a great way to honour our tupuna and show pride in our culture.
The simple waiata A Hakama (below) is great for those learning to speak te reo Māori.
