Making a difference and getting stronger

Cheviot woman Tina MacDonald is proud to be making a difference in Hurunui.

In her role as a recovery navigator, Tina is able to help people in her community access the services they need.

“It’s nice to pass information to people who don’t have the knowledge. It’s a real privilege to be able to help and give to others.”

“I have noticed in my job people feel isolated in little communities. We need to stay connected, be kind to each other and do what we can to keep our little towns going.”

She says talking about what you’re up against can make a big difference if you’re finding it tough.

“There’s always someone to talk to. Saying what you are struggling with out loud helps to cope with it better.”

Tina says she’s learned a lot about herself over the last 18 months.

“I am a lot stronger in my mind – I am definitely stronger than I thought I was.”

She looks after herself by maintaining a good balance between work and hobbies.

Eating well and enjoying the sunshine and beach adventures are also important for her wellbeing.

A “nature person” at heart, Hurunui allows her to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

“It’s beautiful. I definitely love the surroundings.”

“My favourite place would have to be The Cathedrals at Gore Bay.”
